August Membership Meeting

Our August breakfast meeting is entitled, "Growth and Success: It is More Than an Idea - Leading and Managing for Growth." Our speaker, Dr. Mary Pat Moyer, will discuss how she launched INCELL 15 years ago. INCELL is credited with providing non-needle delivery vaccines for HIV, influenza, smallpox and other diseases.

LUNCH CONNECTION:
The next Lunch Connection is Wednesday, August 13 at Swede's (2211 NW Military Hwy, at the corner of West Ave) from 11:30am-1:00pm. Meet and greet fellow business owners and corporate partners; share information about your products and services over lunch! Be sure to bring lots of business cards. INTRODUCTION TO GOVERNMENT CONTRACTING:
The new "Introduction to Government Contracting" class will begin on Monday, September 15, with a series of six classes held every other week. The classes will be held in the Fintan Technologies training room at 2929 Mossrock from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. You will learn about certifications, the CCR, Fed Biz Ops, how to market to the government, the terminology, teaming and, most importantly, if this is something you want to do. SAN ANTONIO FULL COURSE NETWORKING LUNCHEON:
The Women's Business Enterprise Alliance (WBEA) and NAWBO-SA are partnering to serve up a fantastic networking opportunity that provides optimal face time with some of San Antonio's finest corporations and women business owners. A mini-trade fair is scheduled from 10:30-11:30am, followed by a full course networking lunch (11:30am- 1:00pm, and a forum with H-E-B (1:30-2:30pm). CALL FOR 2009 ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT AWARDS NOMINATIONS:
Nominations are being accepted from August 15 to October 15 for the 2009 Entrepreneurial Spirit Awards (ESA)! The ESA event will be held in conjunction with Women&38s History Month on the evening of March 19, 2009 at the Omni Hotel. The ESA gala will honor outstanding women business owners in six categories: Benefactor, Innovator, Inspirational, Mentor, Rising Star and Visionary.
There are 55,000 women business owners in San Antonio, so we are looking for your special nominations! Nomination forms will be available at the August and September NAWBO-SA meetings and online at www.nawbosa.org. AN INCOME OF HER OWN CELEBRATES ITS NINTH YEAR:
An Income of Her Own (AIOHO) begins its ninth year! Once again we anticipate a record number of teen women will participate in the nine-month program, and we need YOUR help. If you are interested in touching the lives of teen women, attend our first committee meeting on Wednesday, September 3, from 4-6 pm at the offices of Coyle Engineering, Inc. We will be making plans for the year ahead, so be thinking about how you most want to contribute.
There are several ways to become involved.
**Help plan and execute the Entrepreneurial Connections and Day-Long Conference
**Be a Facilitator for the Day-Long Conference
**Become a School Champion to meet at least once with the teens and keep their school liaison informed about upcoming events.
**Help judge the Business Plan Competition
**Help with fundraising to secure Event Sponsors and Scholarship Donors
**Help with writing articles/grant proposals

**WBEA Full-Course Networking Lunch - Tuesday, August 26, 2008 -- Volunteers are needed to set-up and attend the NAWBO-SA booth and meet other women business owners as part of our affiliation with the Women Business Enterprise Association. Volunteers are encouraged to include their own business' marketing material at the booth. Mini-trade show is from 10:30-11:30am with the luncheon and other activities following. ** "Can We Talk" - Tuesday, August 26, 2008 -- Volunteers are needed to act as greeters for this annual event celebrating Women's Equality Day and Texas Women's Independence Day. Shopping and networking begin at 5:00, with dinner and the program at 6:15pm. Cost is $30. The AAUW, an association of over 60 women's organizations in San Antonio, is sponsoring this event and focuses on issues that effect teen women now and in the future. Note that NAWBO -SA will consider adding new categories to support membership; however, they must be fairly generic and potentially applicable to more than just one business. "CAN WE TALK" EVENT CELEBRATING WOMEN'S EQUALITY DAY:

SMWBE COMMUNITY VENUES PROJECTS OPPORTUNITIES SEMINAR:
You are invited to attend the Small, Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprise (SMWBE) Community Venues Projects Opportunities Seminar. The seminar will be held on Wednesday, August 20, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Freeman Coliseum Frontier Room. The Community Venues Projects consists of four initiatives that will provide outstanding opportunities to grow tourism and visitation of our area. They will provide an added economic benefit to the community because of the commitment to use at least 20% local small, minority and women-owned businesses for professional services, construction and operations. THE TEXAS CONFERENCE FOR WOMEN:
